Theoretical vs Applied Data Analytics

I am going to put this out there as my last post for today before I go back to my reruns of Andy Griffith, Night Court and In Living Color. Simpler times ;)

As much as we focus on the technical and theoretical aspects of Data Analytics and Data Science - I hope at some point, people start talking from an Applied standpoint.

It's great to learn some new SQL queries or a new function in R, Python, Excel, etc.

But............

How are you going to apply them? What problem are you solving? What opportunity are you validating and subsequently exploiting?

Remember the goal of every business is: 1 - Grow Revenue, 2 - Maximize GP via optimization, and 3 - Improve Client Experience.

As a former Sales Exec told me (before I got into overseeing the Sales Execution process) - stop wasting my time and show me how you are growing and progressing your pipeline. And most importantly, did you hit your numbers.

So to all the Eggheads out there, and I say that with respect. Focus on the APPLICATION OF YOUR SKILLS. Not the continual acquisition of certifications and courses. Whether you are in Data Science or General Sales. How are you contributing to the business goals and objectives?
